Another week has passed and we're almost into December – it's definitely gotten a whole lot chillier!
Work
The day of my last weak note was a hectic one work wise. We've been building towards another launch for a client and half the team were away, so it was a busy day – especially considering that I had the following Monday and Tuesday off! We got some good stuff done though through the rest of the week and launched last night. Early signs are that the world isn't on fire, so that's always nice...
Family
We went away as a family for the weekend for my Mum's 60th birthday, which I mentioned being anxious about last week. It all went well, Mum had a great time which is the main thing. It's strange personally though, because it didn't feel like we were playing happy family for kid's sake, it just felt like a happy family. Those sort of moments just remind me how blissfully unaware I was of how bad things were. There have been lots of weekends like that over the years, and Hayley's recently said about how they've mostly been shit, so I've got this weird dichotomy of feeling like it was a good weekend but also knowing it was probably more of an act on her part than mine.
Racing
I had an extra day of holiday booked than I needed, so on Tuesday I sat and did some sim racing for the whole day. Haven't sat there for a non-team race for 6 hours in months (at least) so it was nice to get that block of time.
Bluesky
Ever since Space Karen bought Twitter and shat all over and inside it to somehow try to change the meaning of the phrase "free speech", I've been feeling like there's some interactions missing from my day to day. In a lot of ways it's been good – I was on Twitter a lot, so there's a lot to be said for minimising that addiction. It also lead to me doing things like removing the Facebook app from my phone too, so just generally I am doom scrolling a lot less.
All that said, it's been super refreshing to see Bluesky come along and pick up some popularity. A lot of the old people I used to enjoy the content of are over there, and so I'm getting more in tune with some people that I really value the opinions of.
Personal project
I've spent a small amount of time on resurrecting a personal project that was almost done a while ago. I wrote about it a little here, which is a win in itself – part of writing these weekly notes is to get back into the habit of writing something in the hope that can lead to writing more valuable things again in the future. I'd like to just smash that project out and get rid of it from my mind, so that I can start on the never ending list of ideas I have circling around.
That's enough rambling for this week though, I'm looking forward to a slightly less stressful bit of work and maybe even a workout or two in the coming week. We'll see..
