Missed episode 1 of the year because ultimately the "New Year" post was a couple of days before and I honestly had nothing else to say. Not sure that's much different this week either, except that there is definitely some more positivity.
Work wise, we've had a new starter this week and I was super worried about some extra imposter syndrome. I had been in the guy's interview and he was very impressive, and that certainly hasn't changed, but my nightmares of him coming in and pointing out to everyone why all my code was bad and that I should quite rightly go sweep some roads did not come true. Yet.
That's let me get on with writing some code, which is handy. The week started super slow but today has been a very productive one, sorting out a new API integration for our journeys that will help make a lot of peoples lives a lot easier. The quality of the code, it's robustness from the off, and the fact I can have some confidence in both those points, are really cool to look at from 6 months ago.
Sim racing wise I managed to get a few races in. They've all gone terribly, whether from ability or hardware issues, but I'm managing somehow not to worry about that as much as usual. Potentially a decently large race tonight, if I can bring myself to do it, but otherwise we've got a 24 hour next weekend so that's a big thing to focus on.
But the main positivity this week came from a bit of a breakthrough with Hayley. We had a really good chat while taking down Christmas decorations, and the subject of me trying to keep this house by buying her out came up. We chatted about the fact that the short story is I can't afford that, but that we both agreed it was a good idea. We think we've managed to come up with the beginnings of a plan to make it happen without me winning a lottery any time soon. That helps to bring a bit of grounding to the whole situation to me. It's still not a wonderful thing to be happening, but knowing that Eleanor and I will have a super stable way through it, and that Hayley has a very solid plan for where she'll end up, lifts a huge amount of weight.
Still no fitness though. Anyone wanna do an accountability partnership? We check in on each other to make sure we're doing the things that'll help us hit our goals, with each giving the other permission to call them out if they're not doing the right stuff. There must be a service that connects people like that somewhere...
