The keys to the kingdom
I've been the default key-holder for a few "kingdoms" over the years – my marketing company back in the 2010's, Prestanda as a business more recently, and NOMAD Sim Racing as the de facto Team Principal. Those have all been very "default" though, what with them being at least in part dreamt up and launched by me. It's difficult to feel any sort of trepidation over having those keys when you gave them to yourself.
So it's been a really interesting process lately to be getting entrusted with more responsibility at my current workplace. I've gone from joining with an intense level of imposter syndrome, to cracking out some dodgy code, to crafting some less dodgy code, to being given levels of access around production environments and now also having some responsibility over the releases that ship. The imposter syndrome at all of those steps has not diminished in any way, but I definitely hold a few of the keys to this kingdom now too – and it's a super humbling and fulfilling thing.
There's not much more to say about it than that, just that the little bit of positivity I can feel from being entrusted with that is really helpful at such a low point of my life as a whole. Being given that tangible little signal of "you're not that terrible, y'know" from a group of people that I hold in high regard is a nice little lifeline.
